Friday Night Entertainment

I love my nieces and nephews!  After a long week at work, I was more than ready to leave the NICU behind, cuddle my own sweet kiddos and soak up their dimpled smiles, soggy kisses, and goofy giggles.  So this afternoon I took a trip to my sister's house for some "Friday night entertainment".  :)

All was quiet when I arrived so Tammy and I took a few moments for ourselves before the kiddos woke up from their naps.  We spent an hour looking through cookbooks for delicious cookie recipes to try for the holidays this year.  We found MANY recipes that will be sure to satisfy any chocolate cravings we might have, and we also discovered a few craft projects that we'd like to try!  We're hoping to attempt some ribbon Christmas trees and Christmas gift tags...stay tuned for pictures of our creations!  :)

Once naptime was over, the REAL entertainment began!  Ruth and I put on matching aprons and made "cookies" together in the kitchen.  When we were done mixing up the cookies, Ruthie said, "I think I need some chocolate chips."  A girl after my own heart!  And since I AM the aunt, I was more than happy to give the girl what she wanted!  When I went to hand her some chocolate chips, she popped her mouth open like a little bird and waited for me to drop them in.

Oh, that girl always finds a way to make me laugh!  :)  And Luke...how can you not smile when he's around!?!?

They have some new baby kitties at their house which were also a ton of fun to cuddle with.  We snuck all 5 of them into the house so we could play with them where it was warm and Ruthie thought it would be fun to put them all in her shopping cart!  Lol...here's the result of her creativity...

The kitties don't look like they minded too much.  Sigh...the whole afternoon just warmed my heart!  :)  Thank you to my sister and her family for a fabulous Friday night!

Christmas 2013

Another Christmas has come and gone...why does it always go so fast?!?!?  I was grateful to be off this Christmas so I could enjoy the day with my family.  I kicked off the morning with my parents and a delicious pan of caramel french toast!  YUM!!!  Then, the rest of the family arrived and we enjoyed a feast of food before diving into all the presents that were under the tree.  The kids were lots of fun to watch as the opened all their gifts...here are a few snapshots of the chaos fun... Cooper being his usual ornery self Lily Ann and her Mama Lily Ann and Ruthie opening presents Cooper is really getting into this present thing! Lily got a barbie! Luke was so funny...he opened one gift and then played with it for 30 minutes before returning to open another... I think he was saying, "Oh WOW!" in response to a toy that made noises...and then he would grab his cheeks in disbelief!  :)  It was hilarious! Cooper like...

Scutterbotch Pie

This is totally not on "the list" for this summer, but I've been wanting to try it for awhile, so I'm including it on the blog this week. When I was a kid, my absolute FAVORITE kind of pie was scutterbotch.  Instead of birthday cakes, I would request scutterbotch pie.  My Grandma Lane used to make it for me from time to time just because I loved it.  My Mom made it for holidays and special occasions and it was oh so good!!!  :)  Life happened and I moved away and the scutterbotch pies came less often.  I can't remember the last time I had a piece of scutterbotch pie.  About a month or so ago, I wanted to make it for some reason...can't recall why.  I didn't have the time then, but decided to give it a go today.  It wasn't TOO terribly difficult, although, I resisted the urge to call my mom in the middle of my pie-making endeavor when I read "brown the butter and brown sugar over medium-high heat" and thought to myself, "BROWN the BROWN...

An Addition to the Office

Today was a BEAUTIFUL fall day in Ohio and I was delighted to get to spend a few hours of it in Amish Country!  The drive was gorgeous as all the trees have turned and the hills of Holmes County are now layered in shades of red, yellow, brown, and green.  If I hadn't been driving, I would've snapped a few pictures to document the beauty of fall. Instead, I kept my eyes on the road and avoided several Amish buggies and a few folks on bikes and arrived safely home with this new addition to my office... My bookshelf has arrived!!  :)  It's beautiful and just begging me to fill it up with books from top to bottom!  I hope to do just that the next time I have a few hours that aren't spent at work or with my nose in a book learning about health policy and politics.  :/  So...maybe by Christmas...  :)
