The List

Okay, so I think it's safe to say that summer is officially over.  Though the sunshine and warm afternoon temperatures are lingering, the world starts going dark around 6:30pm and I can almost see my breath in the bedroom when I wake up in the morning.

Since summer has vanished, I figured I better post the remaining items on my "Summer Bucket List."  A few of these were done in some way shape or form, but weren't quite worthy of a whole blog post.  Others just didn't get done...like going to a drive-in movie.  (And that was NOT due to a lack of time to make the trip, but rather due to the fact that there are very few movies that were playing this summer that I was even remotely interested in viewing.)  :)

1)  Take a bike ride once a week.:  I DID ride my bike several times this summer and even got to load it up on my brand new bike rack that Dad installed on my Jeep and took it to a bike trail one Sunday afternoon.  Lots of fun and definitely going on the list again for next summer.

4)  Walk five 5K's.:  So far I've only done 4, but there is one more in November that I'm hoping to get to do.  So my goal of five 5K's should be accomplished, even though it will be well after summer's official end.

6)  Sit on the front porch until it's dark and watch the lightening bugs.:  I think I only did this once.  Mostly because the bugs were gross and buzzing around my face.  So I didn't see any need to repeat.

7)  Host an outdoor party in my backyard.:  Sigh...this one was attempted a few times, but the weather just never cooperated.  :(

8)  Eat dinner on the patio at a restaurant with friends.:  This one also was not accomplished mostly due to busy schedules and bad weather.  :(

11) Take my nieces and nephews to the park:  I took Lily Ann to a park once this summer.  She and I are good buddies and we actually got to go biking together and happened upon a park while we were out and about.  She had fun and I enjoyed a little time in the sun on a bench...until a weird guy came up and started talking to me...he was twice my age...and he complimented me on my earrings...and then we promptly left that park and continued on with our bike ride.

13) Play a game of volleyball at my parent's house with my friends/family.:  Yeah, this one never happened either.  I guess we're all too old to play volleyball anymore.  Either that or the kids are too young and if we were all playing volleyball, they might get into trouble.

15) Go to a drive-in movie.:  See above.  :)

18) Hang out at a coffee shop with a friend, just catchin' up on life.:  I actually spent more time at a local frozen yogurt shop catching up with friends and family this summer.  I guess something frozen sounds more refreshing than hot coffee in July.  ;)  However, I DID get to meet up with my dear friend, Annette, at Buehler's in Orrville for some DELICIOUS lattes at the end of the summer.  YUM!!!

20) Walk to the local ice cream shop and savor a special treat on a hot and humid summer evening.:  So I cheated.  I DROVE to the local ice cream shop one night and savored the most delicious mint chocolate chip flurry I've ever had.  It was well worth the drive.  :)

I hope all of you have had as fabulous of a summer as I have!

  1. Glad you accomplished most of your goals! Fall is a fun time too and I was just thinking the other day that a bike ride this time of year would be perfect! Might not even sweat!

Scutterbotch Pie

This is totally not on "the list" for this summer, but I've been wanting to try it for awhile, so I'm including it on the blog this week. When I was a kid, my absolute FAVORITE kind of pie was scutterbotch.  Instead of birthday cakes, I would request scutterbotch pie.  My Grandma Lane used to make it for me from time to time just because I loved it.  My Mom made it for holidays and special occasions and it was oh so good!!!  :)  Life happened and I moved away and the scutterbotch pies came less often.  I can't remember the last time I had a piece of scutterbotch pie.  About a month or so ago, I wanted to make it for some reason...can't recall why.  I didn't have the time then, but decided to give it a go today.  It wasn't TOO terribly difficult, although, I resisted the urge to call my mom in the middle of my pie-making endeavor when I read "brown the butter and brown sugar over medium-high heat" and thought to myself, "BROWN the BROWN

Christmas 2013

Another Christmas has come and gone...why does it always go so fast?!?!?  I was grateful to be off this Christmas so I could enjoy the day with my family.  I kicked off the morning with my parents and a delicious pan of caramel french toast!  YUM!!!  Then, the rest of the family arrived and we enjoyed a feast of food before diving into all the presents that were under the tree.  The kids were lots of fun to watch as the opened all their gifts...here are a few snapshots of the chaos fun... Cooper being his usual ornery self Lily Ann and her Mama Lily Ann and Ruthie opening presents Cooper is really getting into this present thing! Lily got a barbie! Luke was so funny...he opened one gift and then played with it for 30 minutes before returning to open another... I think he was saying, "Oh WOW!" in response to a toy that made noises...and then he would grab his cheeks in disbelief!  :)  It was hilarious! Cooper liked patting Baby John on t

Thank You

I FINALLY made it back to the craft room tonight to stretch my brain a little and create something new and wonderful!  :)  After being laid up for a week after some medical stuff, I have a new appreciation for the health I normally enjoy...and an appreciation for friends and family who took the time to deliver yummy meals, delectable cookies, and beautiful flowers (that came complete with a big hug from my adorable niece)!  Now that the pain is subsiding and my body is healing, I'm thanking the Lord for the way He created our bodies to bounce back so quickly and completely.  And I'm also thanking all the awesome people who made time to take care of me over the last week or so with some special handmade cards! These cards were made possible by the Walk in my Garden cricut cartridge.  I just love all the little flower designs that are included on that cartridge.  There are even lady bugs, butterflies, and caterpillars!!  I can't wait to make a few more cards using some o
